jim lehrer asked mr. romney whether he supported the the vouchers that mr. ryan would be introducing to senior citizens. he dodged that question like a football player going through a pittsburgh steelers last night. i am a little cleared out. i would appreciate a lot more honesty on mr. romney's part. i probably will be leading toward the president. i am still winning. host: do you have two minutes? stay on the line. we will get a romney supporter on the line. i want to hear a little back and forth that we will moderate here. caller: sure. thank you. host: what did you think of the debate? caller: i enjoyed it and i thought to mitt romney 1. i was a 23-year coal miner for many years. barack obama is wanting to do away with coal. i want to see mitt romney come back to my area and talk about call. we have a lot of people down here suffering because barack obama has shut down the coal business. i am a christian voters. i like to take the bible and lay it down and look at it and see which president i would like to vote for. i cannot find anything in the bible th

but i've got news for mr. romney. the obama campaign is hammering home who the real romney is and what he stands for. he's a candidate who has no problem writing off the country, something that this president refuses to do. >> i'm not fighting to create democrat or republican jobs, i'm creating jobs. i'm fighting to improve schools in the united states of america. i'm not fighting on behalf of rich values or poor values or 53% value. i'm fighting for american values. he's fighting for american values. but the other candidate, the man behind the mask, he's offering us a budget that takes care of the rich but leaves everyone else in the dust. >> show me your budget. i'll tell you what you've got. let's take a look at their budget. why are they doing it? well, they are doing it because they have to. and here's the reason they have to. they cannot possibly, possibly continue to add to the tax cuts of the super wealthy. >> that's what is behind the romney mask. that's what the next 39 days to the election are all about. an

romney say, mr. president, you've been on an on poll i go tour, you don't know what you're doing in the middle east, you're waiving the work requirement for welfare. if he keeps going like that, the president is likely to lose his temper, isn't he? >> reporter: oh, i don't think so. look, the challenge facing president obama -- >> you don't? >> reporter: -- is the equivalent of a football team ahead trying to run out the fourth quarter. i think his challenge is to deflect, to respond to those with some element of humor, bemouss bemousseement. he'll cite fact-checkers and say independent analysts say your welfare charge is wrong, that sort of thing. i would expect him to be as much above it and not peevish, arrogant, not condescending as is possible to be. this is a president who doesn't make too many mistakes. >> karen, tonight's focus is domestic. >> yep. >> no bigger domestic issue than the economy, as we know. we'll have a rather open format. do you think we'll actually hear a specific from mr. ro

mr. romney was reminded of that today. reminded that he and his fathers and sons did not serve in the wars of their era. he was reminded of that by a man whose family has done the opposite. in virginia today, center wepp said this good the people that mitt romney thinks of as takers. >> i grew up in the military. my dad was a pilot and i was a marine. my brother and son was a marine. i've worked on veteran's issues all of my adult life. governor romney and i are right about the same age young guys. like millions we came to adu adulthood facing the reality of the war. 2.7 million wept to war. took the lives of young americans and cost 300,000 wounds. during the year that i was in vietnam, 1969 our country lost twice as many dead as we have lost in iraq afghanistan combined over the past ten years of war. 68 was worse and 67 was the same. and there was not a day that goes by that i do not think about the young marines that i was privileged to lead. they have lived lives of courage both in combat and after their return. many

mr. romney did look a little frustrated a few times. i kind of liken him to a pit bull on a leash trying to get loose. i agree with him on values, whereas the democratic party, i don't agree with their value system at all. >> did you go into tonight's debate already deciding who you were going to vote for? >> i am decided as far as i am not going to vote democratic party, i know that. as far as an independent candidate or mitt romney, i am not sure yet. >> as far as tonight is concerned, watching mr. romney, did that change your opinion whatsoever? >> yes. i am not sure, there are things he is making points about it, i am not sure what he is actually saying. so i need to find out more about where hes headed before i can really make an informed decision. i do have a comment about the health care. this is for any party willing to listen, and that is, i believe that a good way to reduce the cost of health care in this country is fort somebody of government to regulate the billing practices of the health- care industry people. i think that'
